Built by someone who has sat on the committee.
GovSport is made in Australia for Australian community sporting clubs. It exists because the compliance work clubs are legally carrying is done, almost everywhere, on a volunteer's spreadsheet at eleven o'clock at night.
The obligation didn't get smaller. The committee did.
Community clubs now carry real safeguarding, work health and safety, privacy and governance obligations. The people carrying them are volunteers with day jobs, and the tools they've been given are a shared drive, a spreadsheet and a group chat.
Enterprise compliance software isn't the answer either: it is priced for organisations with a compliance department, and it assumes someone whose job is to drive it. A club secretary does not have that job. They have a Tuesday night.
GovSport is an attempt at the thing in between — serious enough that a regulator, insurer or association will accept it, simple enough that a volunteer can keep it current.
Two rules that shape everything.
Fail closed. When the system doesn't know, it takes the cautious answer. An expired check, an unreadable date or a failed lookup all resolve to "not cleared" — never to "probably fine". Somebody has to decide to proceed. Nobody has to decide to stop.
Never invent. If a number can't be produced from real records, the screen says so. No placeholder statistics, no sample data dressed up as yours, no message marked "sent" that never left the system. A compliance tool that fills gaps with plausible fiction is worse than a spreadsheet, because you'd believe it.
David Ogier.
GovSport is a registered business name of David Anthony Ogier (ABN 76 532 407 200), operating from Australia. I build the platform, I do the onboarding, and I answer the support email. During early access you are dealing with me directly, which is both the limitation and the point.
A second arm of the business performs independent compliance and assurance engagements for clubs — a structured outside review of where a club actually stands, delivered as a report your board, funder or insurer can rely on. That work is available whether or not you use the platform.
Clubs first, then associations.
Everything is built for a single club's committee first. The same organisational structure supports associations at state and regional tier, and that is the natural next step — a roll-up view of member clubs, association policies pushed down, and officials managed across the competition.
What GovSport does not chase is registration and payments. Those are well served elsewhere, and doing them badly would cost the attention that safeguarding and governance need.

If your club is carrying this work and it's not going well, I'd genuinely like to hear about it — early access or not.
